Embroidery Styles
Flat
Flat or regular embroidery is just what you are expecting when you think of embroidery. The stitching is applied directly to the garment which creates a mostly flat looking design. Because of its versatility, it is the most popular embroidery style.
Puff
This style of embroidery is where the art or lettering puffs out, leaving a 3D effect. You will usually see this type of embroidery on very simple images i.e. The Yankee hat. Simple and bold are the ticket to success when it comes to puff embroidery.
Applique
Appliqué is the method used to embroider custom cut shapes of twill onto a garment to create your final design. This is a really high end way to decorate and is often sought after by campuses and schools due to its traditional collegiate look.
Patchwork
Whenever we hand sew something onto a garment, we refer to it as patch work. This could be a patch on a hat, a hem tag on a tee or a back patch on a jacket. It has a 2 step production process, so it adds a little extra time but it is always worth it.
